Rosenberg

William
Rosenberg was
educated at the University
of Cambridge
and Guy’s
Hospital, London,
qualifying in
medicine in 1983. His early medical training was at the MRC-CRC in Northwick
Park,
London,
before moving to Oxford
as a
clinical registrar in 1987. In
1988 he entered John Bell’s laboratory in The Institute of
Molecular Medicine
as a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training Fellow.
After
completing his DPhil,
he returned to clinical work, as Clinical Tutor in Medicine in the University
of Oxford,
a post he held for five
years.
In this role William
completed his
clinical training in gastroenterology, hepatology and general medicine,
led an
MRC funded research group involved in molecular and immunological
science, and
gained extensive experience in clinical research and medical education.
In 1997,
William
moved to Southampton
with the remit of developing a service for hepatitis C. Over the last
seven
years, his group has grown to span epidemiology, clinical research, and
basic
science. Founded on IP emerging from this basic science research, he
began iQur
Ltd, the first spin-out company within the School
of Medicine
at the University
of Southampton.
He was
Professor of
Hepatology in the University
of Southampton,
and chaired
the School
of Medicine
Liver
Group. William
became
Director of
the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility in 2003, and took up
Directorship
of the Southampton University NHS Trust R&D office in 2005. In
2006
he
became Associate Director for Experimental Medicine in the UK
Clinical
Research Network (UKCRN).
William
Rosenberg
currently holds the
Richard Cristin
Chair of Hepatology University College London and Joint Head of Centre
for
Hepatology University College London.
He is
Director of the UCLH/UCL Clinical Research Facility incorporating the
Wellcome
Trust CRF and Cancer CRF. He is also Lead for Viral Hepatitis and
Consultant
Hepatologist, UCLH Foundation NHS Trust and Consultant Hepatologist,
Royal Free
Hampstead NHS Trust
His
national work with the NIHR involves co-ordination of translational
research
and the development of links between the NHS, Industry and Academia.
His main
research interests are in the immunology of viral hepatitis and
biomarkers of
chronic liver disease.
Professor
Rosenberg was
appointed CEO of iQur in February 2007.
Dr
Mike
Whelan,
Head of Scientific
Operations
Prior
to his appointment
at iQur, Dr. Whelan spent seven years as Head of Research at Onyvax
Ltd. This
company was developing allogeneic whole cell vaccines for cancer.
Mike’s team
was involved in both pre-clinical proof of concept studies, and then
the
examination of samples from both Phase I and II clinical
trials.
Mike
completed his PhD in
Immunology at the Bone & Joint Research Unit based at The Royal
London
Hospital, then post-doctoral study at the Institute for Animal Health
(IAH),
focused in investigating cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) responses in
horses
infected with Equine Herpesvirus 1. He then worked as a post doctoral
scientist
at The Edward Jenner Institute for Vaccine Research (EJIVR) examining
the
immune activation of dendritic cells (DC).

Vic
Laville
Chief Financial Officer
Vic
joined
iQur in 2007
after spending over 21 years in the Computer Software and
Telecommunications
industries.
Vic spent 7 ½ years with Oracle Corporation as European and
Group Finance
Manager Worldwide, during which time he built up all of Oracle internal
Financial processes, supporting the business through its rapid growth.
As
European CFO of Wall Data Inc, Vic was an integral part of the growth
and
expansion of the European business, including setting up its
centralised
operations and product localisation functions in Ireland,
and successfully negotiating its outsourced product distribution
process with
Digital in Galway.
After moving into the Telecommunications sector with Long Distance
International (pre-IPO) and then World Access/NETnet Europe, Vic took
over as
European Commercial Director with responsibility for a $500m
P&L.
This
included successfully running a European M&A function which
acquired
several businesses, successfully integrating them and
rebranding/relaunching
the new business across Europe.
More recently Vic has been working independently with a small startup
software
company specialising and operating in the offshore outsourcing field.
